Poster for Rich Internet Application

Just now I was busy doing a poster for the theme "Rich Internet Application (RIA)" [more about RIA here]. I'm a 'noob' in using Photoshop, hope you guys can gimme some ideas, comments, or opinions about the posters below. It really means a lot to me.

Wonder why i'm doing something for RIA? Well it's for an upcoming event in my college, the ICT Showcase 2008. It'll be held on wednesday, 17th December 2008 at the college hall, from 9.30am to 5.00pm.

What do you think bout this two posters? Which one is better? What's the first thing pops up in your mind when you first saw it? It's important for me to know your first impression of the posters here.

Somehow, I just feel not right for this two posters. Although I have spent bout 2 to 3 hours to do this, but I still couldn't get what I want. Urghhhh.... ><

Poster A [eliminated] :

Poster B [eliminated] :

UPDATES! I've done another poster, due to the addition of my lecturer-in-charge's requirements. It's still having the same concept of Poster A and B, just added some descriptions inside, that's all. Comments please~

Poster C (with stars at the background):

Poster D (simpler background):

You guys are welcome to leave your opinions at the comment section. It's much appreciated. Thanks in advance. xD

Gotta work hard for everything now. *fingers crossed* I edited this cute lil picture few days ago, while I was in the lab for my programming class. xD Feel a lil sorry to my lecturer 'cause I wasn't paying attention in his class on that day. >< Hehe... Hope it won't happen again. xD

First of all, the 3 webpage fullfill the RIA's requirement, and show a very good example of RIAs content.

For the first impression, for the both poster, both look almost the same. And both of the poster doesn't give me enough impact and "WOW" effect.

The most sophisticated examples of RIAs exhibit a look and feel approaching that of a desktop environment. Such as drag and drop. But these doesn't mean the 3 webpage, Youtube, Google Earth and Facebook are not good. The 3 websites are great.

Here is a webpage, which I came across, RIAs development using Microsoft Silverlight. Which I think is very cool.

Other than that, for the visual effect of the posters, I personally think that the posters lack of vibrant colour, doesn't give me enough impact.

Maybe you will need to seek help and comment from Professional or experience user in Adobe Photoshop. You will get better answer.

But I rate it 8/10. Well done.
Since you mentioned you are amateur in Adobe Photoshop.

Keep it up and good luck in your coming RIAs event.

The effects in http://www.innovawer.com/ is good, but I just don't like it, it makes me blur with the image. Not to offense.

What's missing is Microsoft Silverlight, we don't have any material for that. So, what we do now is without using MS Silverlight.

Anyway, thanks for the opinions.

hmmm... ok, for the first impression, the poster D with simple background is good... Simple and bring the "professional" feel to others....

But, it is also depend on what is the purpose of this poster for. If you want to do something in serious and professional form, the simple one without those stars will be the best choice.

Btw, I feel the previous version of your design is also did it quite well. Something, A good poster doesn't really too much of wording or description. Once again, it is also depend on s purpose. If this poster is use for some sort of introduce for your project. Description can just do it later on. It is not necessary to squeeze the information into it, or maybe just instead of the title will do the job well.

So, I prefer POSTER B... haha... but the screenshots those you put it into the poster C and D is better...

Anyway, this is just my opinion and actually you really did a great job. Keep it up and choose the best version to suit your project...

i prefer the latter one, D. less is more, don't want the background to distract the main object in the poster.

in terms of colors, for a designer, a complete work is one that have all of these 3 colors, Red, Green and Blue. but somehow, i couldn't find where to apply it into this poster haha you can try it.

for the fonts used, for "Rich Internet Application", i guess the font is alright. but for "Today's World With", the font seeemed not really 'today' but more 'girly' i guess.

so a change to that font may give a different atmosphere in the poster, that make it feels like really 'today'.

for the background, on the upper left, i like the motion blur. but why not try to apply the motion blur on each background item independently, in different layers.

it'll make somewhat the fast pace of today's information technology, which i bet, also one of the poster's secondary theme.

just my 2 cents. hope it helps ;)
