Last year, I took the opportunity to donate blood for the first time in a blood donation campaign that was held in my college. Errr... Without my mom's acknowledgment. I thought girl supposedly donate 350cc of blood, but... The nurse gave me 450cc blood pack to donate. =X
Well it's okkay, I've donated successfully that time, I just don't used to donate blood as it was my first time to do blood donation, I felt dizzy. I was fine after a rest.
After my first blood donation, I thought about organ donation actually. There was a day, I told my mom about organ donation, and asked her opinion about it. I'm glad that she has positive thinking towards organ donation. And I asked her 'what if I register to be an organ donor', she agreed! :]
It has been a while I didn't take any action to get to know more about organ donation, until today, it strikes through my mind. So I Google-d about it and I found this:
Organ Donation: a Gift of LifeI'm gonna get myself registered after I've browsed through Malaysian Society of Transplantation website at http://www.mst.org.my/donorreg.html. There's a form available at the website (bottom of the page), fill it up and print it, then, mail it to:
Organ donation is the gift of ones body parts after death for the purpose of transplantation. Transplantation is an operation which involves the replacement of diseased and defective organs and tissues with healthy ones from donors. The commonly transplanted organs are kidneys, heart, liver, lungs and pancreas while the transplantable tissues are eyes, bone, skin and heart valves. Thus a single donor can save the lives of a number of people.
As reported in the Star, since college student Yap Wai Kein (the first local donor) donated his heart to technician R. Sathrugnan eight years ago, there have been 14 other transplants in the country. Records show that families who have pledged their loved ones’ organs have so far been from the low-income group. International statistics show that less than 5% of people who pledged their organs actually get the chance to make donations. This is due to the strict medical conditions that have to be adhered to, such as being brain dead with no chance of recovery.
For pledge forms and more information, contact the National Transplant Resource Centre. You can also register to be an organ donor online at the Malaysian Society of Transplantation website or get the form here.(Adapted from Malaysian Medical Resources, http://medicine.com.my/wp/?p=290)

I believe everyone wants to live a healthy life, right? So does those who are suffering from different kinds of diseases who need organs such as lungs, heart, and other organs; and for blind persons who needed eyes (corneas) to be donated to them.
Show your love to the society as how you love yourself. :]
